Masking Update

Universal Masking and Screening Policies

You may have seen that the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency ends on May 11, 2023.  We will be updating our policies to mirror the CDC guidelines for masking and isolation.

Masking

Masks have been important during the pandemic. At this point in time, however, universal masking is no longer needed. This is due to many factors, including the availability of vaccines and treatments.

With the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency, New England OB-GYN will end universal masking starting on May 12, 2023.

Patients are still required to wear a mask if they:

  • Have a fever or other flu-like symptoms
  • Have a known COVID-19 infection and are in their isolation period
  • Have a known exposure to COVID-19 within the last 10 days

Masks will still be available for staff and patients at our check-in areas

Please note: Broader masking may be needed again in the future. We will inform you if our policies change.

Symptom Screening

During the pandemic, we have been actively screening patients for COVID-19 symptoms before visits. Starting May 12, 2023, we will no longer ask patients and visitors screening questions before a visit.  However, please contact your care team before an in-person visit if:

You develop any of the following symptoms:

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough, congestion, or runny nose
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • New skin rash (with fever)

OR

  • You are diagnosed with or exposed to COVID-19 within 10 days of an appointment

Visitor Policy

Visitors no longer need to mask or be screened for symptoms.  However, visitors should postpone their visit if they are sick. Visitors who have been exposed to COVID-19 in the past 10 days are also asked not to visit.  Exceptions may be made in some circumstances.

Retiring the Text Message Queuing System – Effective Monday 12/5

Effective Monday 12/5/22 – Our practice will no longer utilize a text message queuing system.  Patients may check-in at the front desk upon arrival for their appointments where they will be screened.  Please call our office in advance if you are experiencing any cold or flu symptoms, have had an exposure or have recently tested positive for COVID-19 at 617-731-3400 Option 2 for nursing.
